How Many Bridges Are in the Florida Keys?

The Florida Keys are famous for their stunning views, crystal-clear waters, and, of course, their iconic bridges that connect the islands. But how many bridges actually stretch across the Keys? The answer depends on how you define “bridge,” but overall, there are around 42 bridges that link the islands of the Florida Keys, many of which are part of the Overseas Highway (U.S. Route 1), the main road that runs from Key Largo to Key West.

The most famous bridge in the Keys is the Seven Mile Bridge, located between Marathon and the lower Keys. This bridge is a marvel of engineering and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding waters. The original Seven Mile Bridge, completed in 1912, was replaced by the modern structure in the 1980s, though the older bridge remains a popular spot for sightseeing and fishing.

The Florida Keys’ bridges are a vital part of the region’s infrastructure, connecting the scattered islands over the course of 113 miles. These bridges not only serve a practical purpose but also contribute to the Keys’ reputation as a scenic drive and a must-visit destination for road trip enthusiasts. Whether you’re crossing the iconic Seven Mile Bridge or any of the smaller spans, the view is always something special.
